Room Attendant - Housekeeper (Montego Bay, Jamaica) - Secrets/Breathless Resorts & Spa

 

JOB OVERVIEW:

Responsible for assisting the Director of Housekeeping, Assistant Director of Housekeeping, Housekeeping Manager and all rooms Managers in the successful ownership and operational execution of the Housekeeping Department. Responsible for assisting the Housekeeping Team Leader in providing genuine care and comfort to the ladies and gentlemen of the respective departments and maintaining a sense of urgency in handling all related matters.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

  • Housekeeping experience preferably in a 4-Star property
  • Minimum 18 years of age to work 40 hours a week
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management, staff, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • Knowledge of effective organizational practices
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Desirable:
  • Guest Relations training
  • Knowledge of proper chemical handling
  • High School graduate or vocational training.
  • Completion of hotel education/training courses

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Use correct cleaning chemicals for designated surfaces, according to regulations and hotel requirements.
  • Clean guest rooms by category of priority or as directed in line up.
  • Transport cart with cleaning supplies, amenities and linen to assigned guest room and position securely.
  • Service assigned guest rooms.
  • Empty trash, trash containers, and ashtrays.
  • Remove all dirty linen and terry from the room and replace them with clean ones.
  • Remove soil, dirt, soap build-up and hair from bathroom mirrors, vanity, sink, toilet, shower walls, bathtub, shower curtain and floor
  • Replace facial, toilet tissue and bathroom amenities in correct amount and location
  • Inspect condition of bathrobes and replace soiled or damaged ones.
  • Remove dirty bed linen and make up bed with clean linen.
  • Replace laundry bags and slips.
  • Clean closets and door tracks on check out rooms and remove items left by guest. Dust inside.
  • Dust and polish all furniture.
  • Realign furniture to floor plan.
  • Open all drawers in check out rooms and remove items left by guest, dust inside.
  • Check under bed(s), chairs and sofa for debris and remove if present.
  • Inspect condition of all furniture for tears, rips or stains; report any damages to the team leader.
  • Remove all dust, debris on television, clock radio, remote control.
  • Set correct time on clock; correct TV channel.
  • Clean lamps and light switches; check for proper working order.
  • Remove dust, spots and smears from phone, and reposition properly.
  • Empty liquid from ice bucket and wipe all surfaces dry.
  • Remove dust, smudges, and spills from coffee station ensure it is plugged in and securely closed.
  • Remove dust on drapes weekly and realign to correct position daily.
  • Inspect condition of amenities on desk, drawers and guest service directory; replace as needed.
  • Remove trash, debris and cobwebs from balcony or patio.
  • Inspect condition of Secret box, remove items if necessary.
  • Return all lost and found items to loss prevention immediately.
  • Remove dust, dirt, marks and fingerprints from entrance door.
  • Ensure presence of fire safety, rate cards and “Privacy Light” sign. Inspect condition and replace as needed.
  • Remove dust, dirt, and smudges from A/C unit, vents, grids and thermostat.
  • Remove dust, stains and marks from all baseboards, ledges and corners.
  • Vacuum carpet in guest rooms as well as around in the corridor.
  • Update status of rooms cleaned on assignment sheet and on the phone by dialing #8090/#8091
  • At end of the shift, return cart and clean U B rooms.
  • Empty vacuum bag and wipe vacuum.
  • Ensure security of any assigned keys.
  • To take complete ownership and accountability of a daily planning and preparation phase.
  • To take an ownership, “stewardship” position within the department and hotel to ensure operational excellence.
  • To know, comply with, and enforce all hotel and departmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  • To assist in the writing of additional standards, policies, and procedures for the department.
  • Promote and support effective departmental and hotel communication through the use of phones, voice-mail, radios, written correspondence and verbal communication. To respond to all calls and messages promptly.
  • Promote and maintain effective, confidential and secure record keeping
  • Maintain complete working knowledge of:
  • Provide warm welcome, and anticipation of guest needs throughout their stay.
  • Anticipate the needs of guests and direct the staff in complying with those needs.
  • Assist Housemen and rooms attendants with their job functions to ensure optimum service to guests.
  • Promote positive internal and external guest relations at all times. Foster and promote a cooperative working environment, maximizing productivity and employee morale.
  • Do not leave carts unattended in corridors for extended period of time i.e. (gone for lunch)
  • V.I.P.’s, scheduled in-house group names, background, activities, locations, and times as well as special requests/arrangements
  • Correct use and maintenance of equipment
  • All department policies and service procedures

Executive Housekeeper (Negril, Jamaica) - Azul Beach Resort

To plan, direct, and control the activities related to the cleaning of rooms, public areas, and laundry, adhering to the authorized budget, and in accordance with the standards, policies, and procedures approved by Karisma Hotels & Resorts, aiming at exceeding the expectations of guests.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To organize and distribute the work of the department according to the occupation forecasts, as well as to schedule work shifts, vacation times, and special permits for the collaborators working in the department.
  • To be familiar and to make sure that all personnel in her area is familiar with the ROH (Room of the House) and the rooms inventory, as well as with their main characteristics.
  • To control the consumption of stationery, supplies, and operating equipment, following the specifications and recommended safety measures.
  • To control the consumption of amenities in the rooms.
  • To carry out a monthly inventory, or at other times as required, of linen and operating equipment.
  • To make the daily assignment of activities to each housekeeper and to supervise that the room cleaning routines or tasks are carried out.
  • To follow up on the general room cleaning schedules.
  • To supervise the cleaning, appearance standards, and supplies, based on the appropriate check lists, as well as the preservation conditions and the operation of the furniture and equipment in the rooms.
  • To report any lack of compliance in the rooms to the corresponding department.
  • To control and safe keep master keys on a daily basis.
  • To educate and train the personnel in the department.
  • To supervise and follow up on the Supervisors’ and Housekeepers’ reports.
  • To supervise that the correct lost and found control and procedures are being carried out.
  • To follow up on comments made by guests on the GSS report and to fulfill the quality program.
  • To review and authorize the purchase requisitions and the warehouse requisitions for the department.
  • To follow up on the maintenance activities requested for the rooms and public areas.
  • To coordinate the preventive maintenance schedule with the Maintenance department, as well as to supervise it.
  • To follow up on the discrepancies report, as well as its immediate solution, when applicable.
  • To supervise the correct and timely execution of the night courtesy service.
  • To ensure the good use and operation of the work equipment in the Public Areas, Housekeeping, and Laundry departments.
  • To supervise the good conditions of the decoration and the appearance of the public areas and rooms.
  • To adhere to the safety and hygiene guidelines, the energy saving, environmental, and the internal civil protection programs, as well as any other applicable programs.
  • To be familiar with the handling and use of chemical products used in the operation in her areas, as well as to suggest the use of new products in a search for continuous improvement.
  • To produce the reports required from the housekeeping, public areas, and laundry departments.
  • To produce the history card for each room.


JOB PROFILE:
  • B. A. in Business Management or a related degree.
  • At least 4 years in a similar position in a 5 stars hotel.

Housekeeping Supervisor > General Manager (or Assistant)

Summary:

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of over 15 individuals in maintaining the cleanliness, order, and guest satisfaction across six villas and four suites. You will ensure our properties consistently meet the highest standards, exceeding guest expectations and contributing to the overall success of Bluefields Bay Villas.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:
  • Effectively supervise and delegate tasks to the housekeeping team, ensuring efficient and timely completion of cleaning duties across all assigned villas and suites.
  • Provide clear instructions, training, and support to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Monitor performance, identify areas for improvement, and coach team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Address any performance issues or concerns with individual team members and take appropriate action as needed with the guidance of the Human Resources Manager and the Ownership Team.

Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct regular inspections of all villas and suites, ensuring adherence to established cleaning procedures and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Respond promptly to guest requests and concerns related to housekeeping services, addressing any issues with professionalism and a guest-centric approach.
  • Oversee the proper care and maintenance of all furnishings, linens, and amenities within the villas and suites.
  • Manage the amenity stock with the Storeroom.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ordering replacements as needed.
  • Keep a report of deliver all ripped/frayed or stained linens to the office for removal from property.
Communication and Coordination:
  • Coordinate effectively with other departments, such as maintenance and Guest Services, to ensure the smooth operation of building maintenance projects, high dusting, landscaping projects, etc.
  • Communicate clearly with management regarding team performance, guest feedback, and any logistical or resource needs.
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation and communication channels to ensure efficient task allocation and seamless housekeeping operations across all villas and suites.
  • To include cleaning logs and checklists.
Scheduling and Logistics:
  • Develop and implement efficient cleaning schedules, considering daily assignments, guest arrivals and departures, and turn-down services.
  • Work with Human resources to ensure efficient allocation of resources and tasks, considering staff availability and workload demands.
  • Respond effectively to unexpected changes or disruptions to the schedule, maintaining a high level of service and guest satisfaction.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum three to five (3-5) years of experience in supervisory housekeeping roles within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, train, and develop a team.
  • In-depth knowledge of housekeeping procedures, cleaning techniques, and hospitality standards.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Assistant Housekeeping Manger

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager assists in the daily supervision of the housekeeping department.   

  • Ensure housekeepers, room attendants house-persons, public service attendants and laundry staff are completing assignments to company standards, coach, counsel and discipline when necessary.   
  • Assign daily room assignments, tasks to housekeeping house-persons and room attendants.  
  • Assign daily responsibilities to public area attendants and or Supervisors and to Laundry staff. 
  • Inspect guest rooms to ensure cleanliness and repair is to company specified standards.  
  • Report deficiency in rooms to maintenance, follow up with front desk on discrepancies in rooms.   
  • May be required to fill in for other staff in their absence.  
  • Assists in overseeing the Quality Assurance staff as it relates to heart of house functions.
  • Working with the Housekeeping Manager and the Executive Housekeeper, the incumbent investigates complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment, and takes corrective action.
  • Examines rooms, halls, lobbies, laundry and other assigned areas to determine need for repairs or replacement of furniture or equipment, and makes recommendations to management.
  • Working with the Housekeeping Manager and the Executive Housekeeper, conducts orientation training of new employees to explain company policies, housekeeping work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Working with the Housekeeping Manager and the Executive Housekeeper records data concerning work assignments, personnel actions, and time cards, and prepares periodic reports.
  • Working with the Housekeeping Manager and the Executive Housekeeper enforces company/hotel policies and procedures.
  • Working with the Housekeeping Manager and the Executive Housekeeper enforces standard procedures for the acceptance, security, and return on customer lost and found items.
  • Working with the Housekeeping Manager and the Executive Housekeeper maintains productivity and labor cost goals.
  • Administers inventories of linen, supplies and equipment as required.
  • Working with the Housekeeping Manager and the Executive Housekeeper ensures all associates being in full uniform at all times.
  • Ensuring that customer requests for housekeeping services are provided within the timeframes established by the Hotel and Management.
  • Lead by example in using customer’s name whenever possible, handling a customer problem in an empowered way.
  • Ensure maintenance concerns in rooms are communicated to maintenance and other staff within the guidelines established by Management.

Experience:
  • Must have previous experience as an Assistant Manager in housekeeping in a mid-to-large hotel/resort is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of PMS software such as OPERA or RDP or others is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products is strongly preferred.
  • A hands on approach with strong leadership skills and the ability to successfully train, guide and mentor staff.
  • Ensuring appropriate chemical safety and Occupational Health & Safety standards and practices are maintained.
  • Monitoring room cleanliness standards through daily inspections.
  • Excellent attention to detail with high levels of successful communication.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience in Conflict Resolution and the willingness to use initiative and assist in solving problems and guest complaints.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
Salary range: US$35,000.00 - $45,000.00 annually.
