DESCRIPTION
Security Officers
JOB SUMMARY:
Security Officers are to display professionalism and good customer service whilst implementing the Security Operation Procedures (SOP) at their location. They are required to inspect, monitor, search, patrol, control, verify, and screen all location clients and vehicles to make sure that safety and security is maintained in keeping with the laws of Jamaica and the policies and procedures. Security Officers must also file written logs daily and report to supervising officers when a breach or non-conformance in security procedures occurs.
Security Officers will use X-ray devices, computer and software, handheld checking devices surveillance equipment, and conduct physical searches to detect prohibited and dangerous items and unauthorized individuals.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Perform duties in keeping with the Ports Security Corps’ policies and procedures
Follow and maintain standards and procedures in keeping with the Operation Manual and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at location
Perform duties in a professional manner and ensure good order and integrity is maintained
Report to shift as scheduled in uniform
Report all incidences and accidents to superiors and security personnel and security office

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Security Officers will perform duties not limited to the following:
- Conduct duties in a professional manner and display courtesy and good customer service to clients at all times while abiding by the Security Operating Procedures and the policies and procedures of the company to prevent the Corps from being in disrepute
- Monitor the location using CCTV
- Patrol areas including airside and landside and check facilities, fences, equipment, vehicles etc. for breaches, document and report the condition/status identified
- Watch for intruders and follow procedures when identified
- Attend briefing and parade sessions as stipulated
- Report issues/problems that arose while performing duties to Supervisors/Managers
- Conduct full body and personal item searches when assigned
- Direct persons to the secondary screening area for further screening when in doubt
- Check access identification cards for correct photograph, permissible access areas, expiry dates of access pass, and other required features.
- Check Access Permits, screen clients and provide advice on how to proceed to next check point for screening and ultimately the destination to prevent unauthorized access/boarding
- Screen, and reject or pass baggage/luggage/containers based upon items identified
- Investigate and report all unattended baggage, equipment, or suspicious items
- Liaise with Supervisor/Location Manager/AVSEC Department/Security Manager/ /Police when a suspected item or person is identified
- Log information that is required in relevant book/database
- Swab baggage for illegal substance/drugs and alert Supervisor/ AVSEC Department /Manager /Police Officers when it is identified
- Engage in authorized anti-narcotics activities
- Control the gates of car parks and the entrances and exits of access points and prevent access or exit without the required access pass
- Check vehicles, baggage, equipment and persons entering and exiting restricted areas
- Ensure the visitors to locations are identified, documented, and verified before given access to location
- Lock and unlock access areas as required
- Alert the relevant persons when there is a bomb threat, uncontrollable client/passenger, injured client/passenger, fire, dangerous/hazardous situation/item is recognized
- Direct clients/passengers to the correct access or exit points
- Prevent the harassment of locals and visitors at the landside areas and transport centre
- Report to shift as scheduled in uniforms
- Resolve queries from clients/passengers
- Assist with emergency situations that may arise
- Participate in recertification activities
- Attend and pass all training sessions.
- Act as a relief Security Officer as requested
- Attend disciplinary hearing as requested
- Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned by Supervisor, Senior Supervisor, Location Manager, Assistant Operation Manager, Operation Manager, Managing Director, or their designee.

- Excellent knowledge and understanding of all appropriate health, safety and security responsibilities.
- Ability to minimise the incidents and accidents within one’s area, particularly promoting a safe working environment.
- Ability to ensure that standards set at security training courses are adhered to.
- Ability to complete reports and maintaining records of security related activities.
- Minimum three (3) CXC, GCE, CSEC or their equivalent, including English Language, Language and Communication etc.
- One year’s experience in the security field an asset.
- PSRA license an asset
Security Officers could work under:
- Moderate to extreme stressful condition
- Moderate to extreme heat, musky and dusty conditions
- Exposure to inappropriate behaviour of clients
- Exposure to weapons and illegal substances
- Exposure to noise from aircraft and machines/equipment
- Exposure to different weather conditions
