Accounting Clerk (Kingston, Jamaica) - Caribbean Chemical Jamaica Limited

Caribbean Chemicals (Ja) Limited is seeking to identify the ideal candidate to join our team in the capacity of Accounting Clerk. Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the incumbent will provide support in the execution of administrative and clerical duties associated with the accounting function.

Key Functions:

  • Reconcile and post bank entries for all bank accounts
  • Dispatching payment notification advisories to suppliers
  • Dispatching bank deposit advisories to team members from ALL bank accounts
  • Preparation and dispatching of customer statements
  • Preparation of daily flash reports
  • Preparation of weekly sales report
  • Deputizing for the cashier as appropriate
Skills, Experience and Competencies:
  • Minimum qualifications - completed AAT certification or its equivalent 
  • At least three (3) years experience in a similar position
  • Proficiency in the use of accounting software and Microsoft applications including Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics would be an asset
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting practices and procedures
  • Solid communication skills

Accounting Clerk (St. Ann, Jamaica) - Moneague College

Accounting Clerk

Under the supervision of the institution's Bursar, the Accounting Clerk (Accounts Payable) will be assigned to the Finance Division and is required to maintain and monitor the administration of the duties listed. These duties will be carried out in collaboration with other main departments of the college. The individual will be a member of the Administrative staff of the college and as such will also be expected to maintain the established code of conduct of the institution.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Verification of invoices by retrieving and reconciling invoice discrepancies
  • Accurate preparation of payment vouchers for various accounts (colour-coded)
  • Accurately process cheques for all three (3) campuses; namely Main campus, Linstead campus and Port Maria campus in a timely manner
  • Maintain vendor accounts by performing data entry to QuickBooks' General Ledger and all associated accounts
  • Address and respond to all queries pertaining to the accounts payables function
  • Liaise effectively with team members to achieve the Finance Division's targets
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business Studies or Certified Accounting Technician (CAT), Association of Accounting Technician (AAT)
  • Detail and results oriented
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Windows suite of applications especially Excel
  • Good knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the incumbent will be responsible for processing payments  and lodgements; preparing monthly financial schedules and reports, GCT certificates and responding to related internal and external queries.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Inputs invoices into the accounting system and generate payment vouchers to facilitate cheque preparation
  • Ensures coding is consistent with business and accounting requirements or raise alert to validate coding
  • Prepares assigned bank lodgements for approval and dispatch for lodgement
  • Prepares and maintains a record of GCT Withholding Tax Certificates
  • Supports the receipt and process of purchase of goods and services
  • Prepares monthly schedules for intercompany transactions in order to facilitate periodic confirmation with the intercompany and for the annual external audits
  • Handles queries from vendors and staff regarding payments


Qualification and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent qualifications in related field
  • At least two (2) years experience in a corporate accounting environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook; and accounting software system MS Dynamics SL 2015
  • Exposure to local and international accounting standards, particularly IFRS, GAAP, and IAS
  • Knowledge of government accounting principles and procedures

JOB SUMMARY

Is responsible for the receipt and accounting of funds being paid to the organization. This role serves as an auditor, ensuring that invoices are accurate and that proper accounting procedures are followed to account for the receipt of payment for services delivered by the organization. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS

  • Maintaining files and correspondences in a manner that is easily retrievable.
  • Perform regular filing of Invoices received from Billing Department.
  • Ensure correct coding of all customer invoices
  • Change code and return to billing all invoices that does not conform to the policy and procedure.
  • Preparing and sending out of invoices for all related receivable accounts and filing the relevant source documents. Paying special attention to the following:
    • Panama
    • Royal Caribbean
    • Disney Cruise Line
    • Sagicor
    • Medecus
  • Ensure that the accounts receivable files are in agreement with what is in the General Ledger.
  • Controlling incoming cheques, ensuring that they are lodged and posted to the Customer’s account.
  • Maintain log of calls made to companies for payment
  • Call to Companies for payment must be done on a daily basis.
  • Submit Aged Receivables Monthly Report to Financial Controller
  • Assist with preparation of the audit process
  • Any other duties as may be assigned to ensure the proper functioning of the Department.
