JOB SUMMARY:
Key Responsibilities:
Wine Selection & Inventory Management:
- Curate and manage the hotel’s wine list, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection of wines from various regions and varietals.
- Maintain optimal stock levels and work closely with vendors to source new wines, ensuring that inventory is rotated and well-kept.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to develop wine pairings that complement the menu offerings.
- Interact with guests to offer personalized wine recommendations based on their preferences and menu choices.
- Create memorable experiences by offering wine flights, private wine tastings, and educating guests on wine regions, production methods, and flavors.
- Ensure that wine service standards are consistently followed.
- Oversee wine service for special events, private dining experiences, and large-scale banquets.
- Collaborate with event planners to develop wine lists for various events and ensure proper service during events.
- Maintain Wine Knowledge & Trends:
- Keep up to date with global wine trends, industry innovations, and new product offerings.
- Attend wine tastings, seminars, and relevant events to continue professional development and stay informed about industry changes.
- Manage wine-related budgets, monitor costs, and ensure that financial targets for wine sales and profitability are met.
- Report on inventory, sales trends, and guest feedback regarding the wine program to the F&B Manager.
Education and Certification:
- WSET Level 3 or equivalent certification in wine is required. A diploma or higher qualification (e.g., Master Sommelier) is highly preferred.
- Continued professional development in wine and sommelier-related courses or certifications is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience working in a sommelier role, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management position.
- Experience in a fine-dining restaurant or luxury hotel setting is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of managing wine lists, staff training, and enhancing the guest experience.
